I want to wish all our friends and colleagues the happiest and healthiest of new years for 2009. In these uncertain and perilous times for so many at home and around the world, it is important we stop and consider those of us in real need.
As a licensed attorney, as indeed are all attorneys, I am strongly encouraged by the organized Bar and by the courts to give back to the community. But regardless of what we do in life, I believe we are all duty bound to try and provide for those less fortunate folks in our community who need our help. Whether through charitable giving or as we try and practice all year long, by providing pro bono legal services to the poor, the act of giving is the greatest gift.
Especially in these first days of 2009 I encourage each of us to dig deeper and try harder to help others who are suffering now more than ever in the harsh economic storm in which we find ourselves. After all, there really is no better way to insure a happy and healthy new year for all of us than by helping those of us not always able to stand alone.
